Description

A charming 1920s grandmother clock, finished in rich black lacquer and decorated throughout in the Chinoiserie style so beloved in the early 20th century. The case is finely painted with gilt landscapes, pagodas, and figures, each panel displaying delicate brushwork. The clock features an elegant arched brass dial with Roman numerals and a matted centre, framed by scrolling spandrels. Inside, the movement is clean and neatly engineered, with its original components intact. The proportions are wonderfully balanced, slimmer and more refined than a full longcase, yet with real presence. A decorative and functional piece that brings together early‑20th‑century craftsmanship and the enduring appeal of Chinoiserie design.
