Description

This lovely antique gilt-framed mirror dates from c.1820, although it has had later alteration and a replacement mirror. The mirror is rectangular in shape with a gilt painted and simple gesso decorated wooden frame with crown decoration. The mirror retains its original white ceramic feet at each side.

Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. As is mentioned above the mirror shows signs of later alteration and has had a replacement mirror fitted at some point, probably in the mid-twentieth century. The gilt frame has been over-painted at some point and the mirror is possibly missing decorative roundels at the top at either side. The gilt paintwork has some wear as might be expected and there are some white marks at either side. There is some cracking and minor loss to the gesso and some knocks and dents. The mirror has some surface scratching and some corrosion to the backing, and there is a dark patch in the middle towards the bottom where the chain has rubbed on the back. There are various screw holes in the back of the frame where brackets have been moved and changed over the years.

The approx. measurements are as follows
Frame - 77cm high, 117.5cm wide, 7.5cm deep (to maximums)
