This is a very fine and impressive verge bracket clock by James Eley London circa 1770 .This maker was apprenticed in in 1753 and and was admitted to the Clockmakers Company in 1761 until 1787 and worked from Fenchurch Street , London
The double fusee pull repeat movement retains its original verge escapement and has a beautifully engraved back plate . It strikes the hours on a bell and strike silent facility in the arch. Unusually the clock has a rise and fail mechanism which allows the clock to be finely regulated by a subsidiary dial in the arch . The quality is up to London's highest standards
The inverted bell top case has canted corners to the edges and glazed sides and doors . It is surmounted by a brass carrying handle
The 8 inch arched silvered brass chapter ring and spandrel dial has a beautifully matted centre with the makers name engraved on a cartouche in the arching . The strike silent dial is in the arch and a calendar aperture above 6 o'clock . The pierced steel hands are original. The clock is in perfect working order having being restored by a master clockmaker
The dial is in excellent condition . .
As can be seen from the images this clock is in excellent condition throughout and is ready to be displayed in the home. The mahogany case uses the finest veneers case and has a lovely finish .It will delight the most discerning client.
This is an impressive clock being is 22 inches tall (handle up). The width is 12 inches and the depth 7 1/4.
This is a genuine and original clock and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end.
