We are pleased to offer this very fine fusee carriage clock of English manufacture dating from the middle of the 19th Century.
Although unsigned English carriage clocks were generally made by the top Chronometer makers such as Dent , Frodsham etc and this is reflected in the exceptional quality . French Clocks were mass produced which enabled their cost to be competitive whereby every English clock was individually handmade and could only be afforded by the most affluent members of society . Despite the cost they were in demand throughout the 19th Century although in very small quantities compared to the French makers.
Subsequently they infrequently appear on the open market and when they do they are well competed by dealers and collectors alike.
As can be seen from the images this clock is in excellent condition with the 8 day duration chain fusee movement with maintaining power and a high quality lever escapement professionally serviced and in perfect working order. It retains the original blued steel hands which stand out against the exquisite engraved and gilded dial.
The early one piece case has rounded corners and opening doors to front and rear. The gilded finish is in excellent condition too.
The early one piece case is well cast and chased.
The clock is 8 inches tall to the very top of the handle .It is 4 3/4 inches wide and 3 1/4 inches deep
I would describe the overall condition as excellent and ready to be displayed.Like all antiques there is the odd minor mark but the condition with delight the most discerning buyer.
