Erwin Eichinger painting of 'A comforting smoke'. Oil on board. 8 x 10 inches (25x20cm) signed and framed.Erwin Eichinger was born on April 13th 1892 in Vienna. He studied at the Graphische Lehr – und Versuchsanstalt. And at first occupied himself mainly with lithography. However, he soon found that his talent for painting was much greater and he studied at the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Rumpler.
In his early thirties, his work was exhibited most successfully in Vienna in all the main exhibitions such as Kunstlerhaus, Sezession and Zedlitzhalle. During the war, his fine portraits won great acclaim in the exhibitions of “Haus der Deutschen Kunst” in Munich.
(In 1922 he had a son, Otto Eichinger, who eventually took up the same profession and similar style of painting.)
His works are now very collectable and greatly sought after throughout the world.
Erwin died on April 3rd 1950
