A superb early Victorian burr walnut brass bound writing compendium with wonderful original fitted interior c.1865. The choice cut burr veneered exterior with brass bound corners and inset presentation plate to the lid, matching brass escutcheon to the lock. The hinged top section opening to reveal a Coromandel lined interior, spring release letter lack to the lid. Two white porcelain writing tablets to the front section with fitted pen and in compartment sat behind, two original brass topped traveling ink wells set to the sides. The front section folding over to form a writing surface with original dark blue inset tooled leather. The rear surface opening to reveal a mahogany lined storage compartment and a concealed panel with hidden release, three small secret drawers sat behind. Outstanding quality and condition with a rich original colour and patina throughout. Measures 18" wide x 11" deep x 9" high (closed). Extends to 18.5" deep when fully open.
