Description

A stunning Victorian four door breakfront bookcase by Maple & Co in the Aesthetic/Arts & Crafts style. In quarter sawn oak with bevelled glass panes to the astragal glazed doors it features foliate carved emblems and fluting to the cornice, upper section and base as well as wonderful bold carvings of urns of fruit and flowers to the panelled base doors.

With eight original adjustable shelves to the upper section the shelves are nicely finished with a moulded front edge, the stepped out base has two drawers to the sides and four deep cupboards. Fitted with brass twist-open handles and stamped and labelled for Maples & Co of London.

In excellent condition, there is replacement drop to a handle on one base door and another is missing (we will find a replacement), the twist action does not work on all the handles, there are no keys and a shelf is missing from the upper side section and there are no shelves to the base.
