Description

A lovely Sheraton revival mahogany and inlaid writing desk attributed to Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple and dating to circa 1900. With satinwood crossbanding and box and ebony line inlays it features a superstructure with Arts & Crafts influenced spindle turned gallery with pierced central plaque and two small drawers on a quarter-veneered back with inlaid motifs in burr walnut and box. With original brass ring handles and locks and standing on four elegant square tapering legs with brass feet it is strengthened by side stretchers and curved rear stretcher. In very good condition with marks commensurate with age, small piece of stringing missing to lower edge of top on right side, recently repolished and with a replacement dark green and gilt tooled desk leather it comes with a working key.
