Description

A superb quality and impressive Regency breakfront flame mahogany gentleman’s linen press wardrobe dating to circa 1820 and attributable to Gillows of Lancaster. Featuring a stepped moulded cornice above a pair of projecting fielded panelled cupboard doors with brass moulding and enclosing six original sliding trays (which can be removed to create another hanging space). With a decorative horizontal reeded moulding running across the full width and two short and two long cockbeaded drawers below, all with brass handles and flanked by a pair of double panelled cupboard doors enclosing full length hanging spaces AND also provided with all the shelves to fully shelve the sides, all doors decorated with ebonised quadrant mouldings and ebonised cockbeading to the drawers, raised on plinth base. With working Chubbs patent lock stamped ‘230085’ to the central door, twist-to-open handles and locks to the side doors and further locks to the drawers (no keys for these but we may be able to get them cut if required).

In good structural condition and retaining its original finish, exceptionally good colour and patina, some marks and signs of wear as should be expected for the age.

Top centre section - 49 5/8in wide x 19 3/4in deep x 44 1/2in high (126cm x 50.2cm x 113cm)
Side sections - 20 7/8in wide x 17in deep x 73 1/2in high (53cm x 43cm x 186.5cm)

For moving this item divides into eight sections (three sections of cornice, plinth, two side sections, centre top and centre base section).
