Description

An extra-large Victorian mahogany wind-out table (appoximately 1875). The table extends to 9ft 9ins by means of a pair of Joseph Fitter style screw mechanisms. There are three drop-in leaves allowing the table to be used in several lengths starting at 5ft 1 ins. It is fractionally under 4ft wide The table top is mahogany with quadrant and thumb moulded edges and rounded corners. It stands on fine turned reeded legs and original brass and ceramic castors. The table top has been french polished.

We specialise in antique wind-out tables and when we acquired this one, we realised it was something special. Unlike many wind-out tables, it has been fully extended for much of its life so the drop-in leaves are a similar colour to the rest of the table. It shows marks and knocks consistent with its age, but it was obvious that it had been well looked after.

We have serviced the mechanisms (this one has a winding mechanism at each end) and made repairs where necessary. We decided that the French polished tops would benefit from being re-polished so we have had this done professionally.
