Description

A gorgeous example of a Georgian solid sterling silver sugar caster.

Hallmarked within the base, and partially on the removable lid for London 1783, the maker's mark on this caster is slightly rubbed, but is possibly that of Thomas Shepherd. The caster takes a classic form, with floral pattern and a cartouche engraved with a single, fancy initial, possibly 'H'.

The silver strut above the circular pedestal base is slightly misshapen, maybe a sign of an old repair, but this does not detract from the overall appearance of the caster, which is one of pleasing decoration covering most of the item.
