Description

For sale today we have this rare and quite possibly unique, hand painted dish by John Pearson of the Guild of Handicrafts. More noted for his work in copper, Pearson also created a number of hand painted chargers, dishes, and plates etc, most of these were in the William de Morgan style and featured Galleons and Mythical Beasts. This is the first time that I have encountered a grotesque Pupae type creature! This emerging creature is set against a lustred ground within a circular border of leafy branches. Further decorated to the rear with half circles and a central flower, along with his JP monogram and the stylised "X" that he used to mark his hand painted wares. 13.5cm dia. No chips, crack or repairs- some oxidisation and paint loss as is quite usual with these Pearson pieces.
