Important WAS Benson Arts and Crafts Copper Ceiling Light with Powell Vaseline Glass Shades

Extraordinary and extremely rare fully complete No 1218 WAS Benson copper ceiling light retaining its original James Powell two part vaseline glass 'candy stripe' acorn shades with copper leaf form design central gallery, leaf form shade bobeche and stylised 'beehive' design ceiling rose.

This most beautiful ceiling light is a rare example of early Arts and Crafts electric lighting design by WAS Benson. The wonderful internal candy stripe vaseline glass shades exhibit superb translucency and clarity especially once lit.

Marks: Fully stamped BENSON.

Condition: In remarkable and excellent original condition retaining its original patina and in full working order, rewired & ready to install with black antique style twist silk flex. The bulb socket holder has been replaced to ensure safety.

Date: circa 1900.

Size: Current installed length 60 cm which can be adjusted to suit.

Provenance: Originally purchased from the WAS Benson Pavillion at the British Empire Exhibition held in Kelvingrove, Glasgow in 1901 by a Scottish business owner with Clydeside ship building connection.
