An exquisitely beautiful fully hallmarked 9 carat gold Edwardian locket which was tested for purity at Chester Assay Office in 1907. This ornate double portrait locket is ornamented with superbly rendered and highly symbolic imagery. The shield cartouche represents the desire of the donor to protect the wearer. The initials E R are inscribed on the shield. The inscription is so ornate that the letters form a highly stylized design which is so pleasing to the eye that it really does not matter if your initials are E R or R E or neither of these combinations. Both sides are decorated with acanthus leaves and forget-me-not flowers. Acanthus leaves signify everlasting life. The hinge and catch work perfectly. The interior frames, backings and clear portrait protectors are in place.
