Description

An enchanting fully hallmarked silver gilt enamel box which dates to the 1950s. The lid of the powder box features a scene taken from Aurora: A Painting of the Coming Dawn by Guido Reni. The scene depicts Apollo in his horse drawn chariot which is flanked by the Horae (goddesses of the hours). The torch bearing Phosphorus, the god of the planet Venus, is shown as the Morning Star. On the far right Aurora is shown with her clothes blown about by the billowing wind.

The enamel is very beautiful and in excellent condition. No enamel loss or fading.

The mirror has significant age related haze.

The catches and hinges work perfectly. The maker's mark and silver purity mark are stamped inside the case.
