Antique silver pocket watch, Nathan Ruben Fränkel

Description
Antique silver pocket watch by Nathan Ruben Fränkel. The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. It carries the logo for Nathan Ruben Fränkel and has the name Fraenkel & Cie underneath the dial. Nathan Fränkel was a Jewish watch maker from Frankfurt, he lived from 1848 until 1909. He was known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of time pieces.
His son Friedrich, along with his wife Klara, ran a successful watch business in Frankfurt but they were forced into bankruptcy by the Nazis, and in 1938 they fled to France to avoid deportation, and survived the war in hiding.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 800 silver and there are Continental hallmarks for 800 silver, namely a grouse, or coq de bruyère which indicates the fineness and the Swiss origin. The case is in good condition, just a couple of small flattened patches to the side.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is in beautiful condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
Just for interest, I have included a photo of Nathan Fränkel… the photo is not included in the sale.
