Gents Certina DS-2 automatic wrist watch, turtle back.

The watch has a 28-jewel automatic movement, 25-651, which is working nicely. The movement is signed on the rotor with the Certina name.

The watch measures 38mm wide excluding the plain winding crown, and 35.5mm high excluding the lugs. The case is gold plated while the screw-on case back is stainless steel. There is some rubbing to the plate if you look closely. The inside of the case back is signed Certina, together with the reference 58 (movement Certina 25-651), 06 (yellow gold plate), 300 (model).

The watch has the turtle case back. The turtle was a symbol of resilience, introduced by Certina in 1959, the same year as the Sea Turtle Conservancy was founded. The company is still involved with turtle conservation today and in 2017 Certina announced its support for the Sea Turtle Conservancy and its Tour de Turtles project.

The lens has a couple of light scratches but is very acceptable.

The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands, centre seconds hand and date display. This is an early form of quickset where the hands are repeatedly turned backwards and forwards between 12 midnight and 9pm.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
