DESCRIPTION:

This is a fine example of a Pollards of London Haberdashery Counter. The counter dates from the 1930s. This counter has a brass frame with inset yard rule to the top and has 15 oak fronted graduating drawers with oak sides having wooden handles with bone insets. The counter has a glass display shelf which is made up of two halves for ease of removal for transportation etc. The display shelf is access via two sliding doors with mirrors on the inside and leatherette on the outer making this counter quite unusual as never seen one with this before, it also has brass bearing runners stamped with “Kwikgliding Door Pollard Pat”. The counter stands on shaped ogee legs with brass tips and adjustable brass feet and has its dust board all testament to the quality of the said piece. The counter has had a new laminated glass top fitted for safety and as the other was too badly scratched. This is a truly quality piece and stunning colour that would lend itself in both beauty and practicality to many settings both in the home as a kitchen island which is where so many are now used as well as for the hobbiest or crafters out there as well as many uses in a commercial setting in both retail boutiques, confectionary shops and the ever popular cupcake market.

WORKSHOP REPORT:

This counter has been through the workshop and inspected and has had a new Laminated glass top fitted and been given a general polish. There is a slight nibble to one of the glass shelves that has run a little but nothing we felt needed any work. Please be aware this counter does come with general marks from wear and use nothing that you wouldn’t expect to find but such as adds to the beauty, character and history of the piece and must be accepted as so.
