Description
This is an attractive and decorative map of mid 19th century BRITISH GUAYANA drawn and engraved by John Rapkin for "The Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World" published by Tallis & Co in 1851.It is illustrated with vignette engravings of Georgetown, Christmas Cataract, River Berbice New Amsterdam, and Ataraipu or the Devil's Rock.
The original outline hand-colouring has been augmented with additional later hand-colouring of the vignettes and border by a specialist which has enhanced the decorative appeal of this attractive map.
It is in excellent condition, from the preferred edition without the central fold and printed on heavy grade paper and blank verso.
Mounted in a cream mount card and protected in cellophane, it is ready for framing or for giving as a gift.
