Description

A framed pair of genuine Japanese woodblock prints from 'One Hundred Aspects of the Moon' c.1885 by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892). The first image of a samurai on horseback is called 'Moonlight Patrol', No 8, and depicts SAITO Toshimitsu reconnoitring in the Kamo river near Kyoto before the attack on Oda Nobunaga's headquarters. The second image titled 'Inamura Promontory Moon at Daybreak', No.39, captures Nitta Yoshisada praying to the Sea God and dedicating his sword to the sea at Inamura Promontory. Next day, the tide receded so Yoshisada's army could cross the water to defeat the enemy.

Condition: The prints have not been inspected out of their frames but they appear to be in good antique condition. They are attractively displayed inside black mounts and narrow black frames which are in good clean condition.
