Description

This art nouveau silver card case features an engraved foliate design, front and back. There is a vacant cartouche to the front and the sides have a plain scroll relief design. The case is complete with a carrying finger loop and chain.

The card case is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1905, and the maker John Rose. The lid to the card case also carries a partial set of hallmarks. The finger carrying loop on the chain also carries the lion rampant mark confirming that this is also silver.

John Rose operated from Hockley Street, Birmingham, until c1977.

The card case measures 6.5 cm (2.6") by 9.5 cm (3.75") by .8 cm (.3").
Each chain half measures 16 cm (6.2") long, and the finger suspension loop has a diameter of 3.6 cm (1.1".
It weighs 87 grams including the chains and loop.
All measurements are approximate.

The silver is in very good overall condition. The lid hinge operates well, and the lid is a snug fit. There is some light surface scratching commensurate with age, but no nasty dings or dents.

Please study all photos as these form an important part of the description.
