Description

This York assayed fiddle pattern mustard spoon was made by James Barber and William Whitwell. The plain design spoon has not, or ever, been engraved.
The bowl of the spoon has some very faint traces of having once been gilded.

The spoon carries the hallmarks for James and William, the lion rampant for sterling silver, the George III head duty mark, and the date letter "h" (1819).
There is no town assay mark, but this was not unusual for the York assay office who would only mark pieces "of importance" or "of significance".

The spoon is in very good condition. There is only normal age related surface scratching.

The spoon measures 11.4 cm (4.5") long, and weighs 13g.
All measurements are approximate.

Please see photos as these form an important part of the description.
