Description

WW2 France, Croix du Combattant medal.

As its name suggests, this medal recognises those who fought in combat for France.
The medal was actually created in 1930 and awarded retrospectively to veterans who fought in world war one, and earlier colonial conflicts. In 1930 the award was extended to be applicable to those who fought in world war two. It has subsequently been extended again for veterans of Indochina, Korea, North Africa and other later operations.
We believe this example was awarded to a world war two veteran.

The medal, as is usual, is not engraved with the recipient's name.

This full size medal measures approximately 4 cm (1.5") by 4 cm (1.5") excluding the suspension ring.
