Description

The "Hirondelle" ("Swallow") bookend was designed and first produced by René Lalique in 1928. This version had a black glass base. René revised the design in 1942, and the pair on offer are of this later design (Hirondelle-B). This later design is still in production.
This pair is of recent manufacture.

The base of each bookend is engraved "Lalique ® France".

Each bookend measures approximately 8 cm (3.2") wide, 8.5 cm (3.3") deep and stands 15.5 cm (6.2") tall The combined weight is a substantial 1840g/4lb.

The bookends are in excellent condition. The bases show minimal wear, though there is the merest hint of a roughness to the edge of one of the pieces. There is no original packaging.
