Description

A Canadian brilliant cut glass bowl by Gundy Clapperton c1905. Gundy and Clapperton were the earliest manufacturers of cut class in Canada in the early 1900's. Hob star design, makers trademark (GCCo in a shamrock) to the base. This is a beautiful, heavy cut glass bowl with very intricate decoration. No visible sign of any damage or restoration.

Gundy Clapperton were the earliest Canadian fine cut glass manufacturers and traded in Ontario from 1905 to 1936. They did all the design and cutting themselves, using blanks supplied by Baccarat of France, Val St Lambert of Belgium, Libbey, Fry, Union Glass and Dorflinger. Polishing was done using wooden and felt wheels instead of the acid polishing methods used by other manufacturers at the time.
