Description

This is a good Welsh solid oak fireside armchair dating to around 1820 - 1840. The chair originated in North Wales, probably Denbighshire and is a classic Welsh period chair with pegged joints, wonderful shepards crook arms and an interesting shaping to the mid rail to the back. Welsh chairs of this period seem always to put a lot of shape in to back rails or aprons.

The chair is in good antique condition. It is well polished with no obvious repair or damage. Good wear to stretchers, stain to solid oak seat and very minor shrinkage.

I love these Welsh chairs. You can see how the design would have looked so good in a period welsh farm house. You can imagine this pulled up to a large fireplace. A happy way to while away the long Welsh winter evenings.

The chair back is 37 inches high and the seat is 18 inches high and it is 20.5 inches from outside arm to outside arm.
