Opulent gilded furniture is a design style which is really hot at the moment. The American's describe it as Hollywood Regency but the europeans have been doing it for centuries!

This dressing table is beautiful. It probably dates to the 1950s -1960s and is Italian. This table would have been fearfully expensive when it was new. It is properly gilded in gold leaf (I am guessing Dutch Gold) on a red gesso base. I love the way the red has bled through the gold in places. Newly gilded pieces can look too brash but old pieces gain in opulance with wear.

Just look at the quality to the carving to the apron and drawer. The oval top has a serpentine front and the leading edge is gadrooned. It has a central drawer and stands on cabriole legs with as pretty an acanthus carved foot as you will see.

The table is in good vintage condition. Minor marks from use as you would expect. The gold just glints. This table could be used as a dressing table in a well appointed bedroom with a gilt mirror hung on the wall behind it but it could also fulfil the same function in an opulent reception hall. I have an appropriate dressing stool also listed this week.

The dressing table is 54 inches wide and 26 inches deep and 30 inches high.
