Description

Opulent gilded furniture is a design style which is really hot at the moment. The American's describe it as Hollywood Regency but the europeans have been doing it for centuries!

This pair of bedside cabinets are beautiful. They probably date to the 1950s -1960s and are Italian. These cabinets would have been fearfully expensive when they were new. They are properly gilded in gold leaf (I am guessing Dutch Gold) on a red gesso base. I love the way the red has bled through the gold in places. Newly gilded pieces can look too brash but old pieces gain in opulance with wear.

The pair of bedsides are oval in form and have bevel edged mirror tops and lots of carved rococo detailing to the drawer fronts and pretty cabriole legs.

The bedsides are in good vintage condition. Drawers run well. Minor marks from use as you would expect. The gold just glints. Love them.


The bedside cabinets are 25 inches high and 13.5 inches deep and 20 inches wide.
