Description

A lovely oak long stool dating from c. 1640 with spayed legs to provide extra stability and original timbers throughout.

The well turned legs with channel carving and with box stretcher with original pegs. Original pegs can also be seen on the inner faces of the legs where they join the freeze and the inner faces of the timbers show the cut marks from a hand held adze.

Sturdy and with a very attractive colour, the single board oak top with marks and stains consistent with its great age. Some small depletions and some old worm holes - but long since dead.

Heavy and with a wonderful patina. So rare to find original stretchers on seat furniture of this age.

When made in the 17th century this lovely stool would have been one of a set and been set alongside a planked top refectory table.

Dimensions are:

48 inches wide, 19 inches high and 11.75 inches deep
