Antique Welsh Folk Art Cawl Spoon Ladle Treen

1 of 6
Description
A stunning unique mid 19thC Antique Welsh Cawl Ladle of incredible form and quality, superbly carved from a single piece of sycamore, from South Carmarthenshire. Perfect condition. An extremely interesting example with hanging hook in the form of a swans head, symbolic of far more than its utilitarian purpose and that it was possibly carved to be gifted as a love token or to be entered as an display of skill and craftsmanship in a local eisteddfod.
Love spoons and love tokens are found in a huge variety of designs and are often based on everyday utilitarian objects such as Dolphin Spoons, Cawl Spoons, Ladles and scoops. The use of these traditional and familiar forms strengthen the symbolism of the Welsh love spoon making these design types amongst the most important and desirable.
