Description

This is a mid 20th century composition chess set with strong medieval overtones made by Jaques. Discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, the Lewis Chess Pieces are probably the second most famous chess set design in the world after the standardised Staunton style. The original pieces, found by a local shepherd, are on display in the British Museum and the Museum of Edinburgh. This is a complete set with very characterful pieces and still retaining the original box which is in good condition apart from one missing catch.
