Medieval Figure

Description

This polychromed wood figure was acquired by it's previous owner in the 1960s, from a Northern vicar who in turn had received it as a gift when a church with 13th Century origins was demolished. Most certainly pre 1500, this figure would probably have been one of a number that gave support to an altar. A female figure holding a type of lute, this carving has survived remarkably well, with only minor damage to the feet and still retaining traces of the original polychrome throughout.
