A Rare Early 16th Century Oak Iron Bound Church Chest
Possibly used for the safe guarding of a monstrance or a pair of altar candlesticks
The structure of four boards is pegged together with stout trenails,and iron bands which encircle the body and measure one inch in width.
The base which is a single board with large dovetails to each end secured with a cruciform iron band.
The lid which has suffered harsh sap damage to one side is secured with a pair of substantial hinges and hasp secured with a padlock.
In totally original untouched condition,with a fantastic surface and natural colour.
Signs of old worm damage as one would expect ,but a solid item of academic interest
