16th Century Oak Wainscot Chair

A venerable survivour .
This oak chair dates to circa 1540-1560
From Devon/Cornwall area
The top rail with ed design and guilloche framing the panel with central quatrefoil guilloche, replaced seat, front posts and stretchers.
The rear of the back with two boards used as a draught excluder.
I like the way it is a sort of cross between an 'early oak' chair and a 'country' chair. It has been kept in continuous use through constant repair, so actually quite a bit of it is now 18th or 19th century.
A quirky vernacular piece of large proportions.
Great colour and patina.
