18c Watercolours Attr to Michelangelo Maestri x5

5 Gouache Paintings Attributed to Michelangelo Maestri (c.1790) – ‘The Hours of Day and Night’.
A group of five allegorical female figures after Raffaello Sanzio, called Raphael. Gouache with wide margins and red framing lines on thick laid paper. Late 18th or early 19th century. Housed in new grey cotton rag board mounts, without frames.
Condition: In general, the paintings are in good condition. Some rubbing and losses around the edges of the sheets due to old window mounting and general rubbing and abrasion. There is paint loss in some areas, otherwise mostly the colours are strong and vibrant.

Smallest – Sheet: 18 3/8 x 14 3/8 in – Image: 15 1/4 x 11 3/8 – in Mount: 21 1/4 x 17 3/8 in.
Michelangelo Maestri was a painter and engraver active at the turn of the 19th Century in Rome, a time of great change, both political and artistic. His decorative works are typical of the taste of the era, evoking the antique and the frescoes of Raphael. They were highly successful in early 19th Century Rome and went on to be frequently copied and engraved by later generations. The quality of this set (without etched outlines) points specifically to Maestri himself. PAYMENT OPTIONS
