1918 silver pocket watch for services in Great War

A 1918 silver pocket watch awarded for services in the Great War.
The watch has a stem-winding movement, signed Rone, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1918. The case was made in England by the Dennison Watch Case Company.
The back of the watch has a lovely engraving from when it was presented to Hindson Armstrong by the Parishioners of Martindale in recognition of his services during The Great War 1914-1918.
A little research has revealed that this is probably the Hindson Armstrong who was born around 1864 in Shap, Westmoreland. He was a farm labourer and lived at High Gate and Housteads Brow in Martindale. He died in the very cold winter of 1947 and the snow was so deep that the horses were unable to pull his coffin so it had to be rowed across Ullswater and then taken to the church.
Back to the watch, there is a little gentle unevenness to the case back but overall the case is in good condition.
The acrylic lens is in good order.
The white enamel dial is in lovely condition and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
