1919 Mark V Zenith cockpit watch (re-cased)

A 1919 Mark V Zenith cockpit watch (re-cased).
The Mark V watch was manufactured for the Royal Flying Corps for use in cockpits. There were four known manufacturers of the watch, namely Zenith, Omega, Doxa and Electa... there were other manufacturers but they preferred to remain anonymous.
The watch came in three forms, the 30 hour non-luminous version such as the watch we have here, the luminous edition for night time pilots to monitor fuel consumption and navigate in the dark and then the eight day version which was ideal for longer flights.
This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Zenith name and the serial number 2,320,260 dates it back to 1919.
The watch itself measures 57mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case was made by the Dennison Watch Case Company and is in good condition with just one small knock to the bezel. This is a later case, possibly adapted for civilian use.
The later acrylic lens is in good condition.
The dial has the CB code, used by Zenith. The hands appear to have been repainted at some stage, and the infill has been removed.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
