8 Day Mahogany Grandfather Clock c.1780

This is superb quality antique George III oak inlaid mahogany grandfather antique clock, circa 1780 constructed by Richard Wright who worked in Witham, Essex during 1779 to 1786 (according to Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World). It has an 8 day mechanism in working order which keeps good time. The antique clock features the original moon dial painted phase, striking movement, seconds hand and calendar dial. The clock boasts double ¼ columns to the hood, an original painted arch and a central finial. The face is original and shows the superb brass work with double globes and original ¼ spandrels. The long case features a mellow flame mahogany oval insert surrounded by cross banding and string ebony and satinwood inlay. The door lock features a diamond satinwood insert around the original working key. The base of the clock mirrors the oval design of the long case trunk. The corners of the base are inlaid with satinwood stringing and features splayed feet with a shaped apron.
