A C.17th & Later Antique Oak Wainscot Chair
A Good C.17th & Later Antique Oak Wainscot Chair
A characterful pegged and jointed West country oak chair of good, manageable proportion.Raised on turned balusters and including super down-swept arms decorated with unusual punch-work.
The back panel decorated with a 4 leaf 'Saltire' pattern flanked by molded uprights and with very attractive Guilloche carvings to top and lower back rails.
Typical lunette decoration to apron and further carvings to stretchers (probably later)
The chair has at some time been raised (to quite a high seat height of 18 3/4") by splicing the back legs and adding an inch of turning to the front.
The seat is of a later date.
Medium to dark patina throughout
