A Hepplewhite period harewood bonheur du jour


A superb Hepplewhite period harewood and floral marquetry inlaid Bonheur Du Jour. Raised on cabriole legs with serpentine front and shaped sides, a single frieze drawer with pencil cedar linings and writing slide. The upper section with drawers and compartments. This piece is of exceptional quality and has beautiful inlay to almost every surface, it is also in very good condition a retains a good faded colour and patina. 1130mm high, 970mm wide and 450mm deep. English. Circa 1785.
N.B. Bonheur Du Jour in French means "Daytime delight" and is a type of Lady's writing desk introduced into Paris in the 1760's and quickly became very fashionable and was soon being made in London. W J Gravener Antiques is a family owned business, started in 1963 by William who was joined by son, Mark in 1981 and continues today with the same ethos of dealing in fine quality English and Continental furniture, mirrors and decorative objects, from the 18th & 19th centuries. Now under the stewardship of Mark and his wife, Louise, we take pride in maintaining the high standards which William set more than 50 years ago.
