A Stroll in Monmatre, Paris Ken Moroney

oil on board, signed and inscribed verso, studio stamp, 12"x12".
KEN MORONEY, born 1949, is a gifted and versatile painter, his oils being swiftly and vigorously executed. He is, for the most part, self-taught but his fluent technique is derived from the practice in “plein aire” which gathered pace in the late 19th century. Among the british artists who carried this tradition into the 20th century were many of the Newlyn School, as well as artists such as Munnings, Seago and Arnesby Brown. These were all artists with a similar deep feeling for paint and atmosphere who possessed the natural ability to capture scenes of light and movement in a matter of a few brushstrokes.
There are many elements of Ken Moroney’s work which bring to mind this tradition, as well as the dash and colour of continental painters such as the Belgian Frans Smeers and the Spaniard Sorolla y Bastida.
Ken Moroney was born in London and has lived there most of his life. He enjoys travelling to France, Italy and Scotland all of which provide him with inspiration for his paintings. Despite his lack of formal training, he has achieved notable success and his work has featured in numerous exhibitions including ones at the Royal Academy.
