An antique silver pocket watch, C Stone, Bristol
An antique silver pocket watch, C Stone, Bristol.
The watch has a signed key-wound movement which is working nicely, and a winding key is included. The movement hinges out the front of the case and there is some play in the hinge. The movement is protected by a fitted inner cover.
The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the back covers for Chester 1889 with a maker’s mark for the Coventry based watch case maker Jesse Hallam. The case has a little gentle unevenness to the case back and rubbing to the engine turned detail, just from use over the years, but overall the condition is good for a late Victorian piece. When the back cover is opened, you can see a previous owner’s name which has been engraved onto the inner cover.
The acrylic lens is in good condition.
The white enamel dial is in good condition. The minute hand is a later replacement.
