Andries Debeuf 1912-02 Oil Painting Dutch Harbour


We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely, atmospheric oil on canvas by the artist Andries Debeuf, who has signed the painting A. Debeuf in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a moonlit Dutch harbour scene with several vessels at anchor. The rooftops and church spires of the city are silhouetted against the moonlit sky. The artist has captured the scene in a masterly fashion.
Andries Debeuf was born on 2nd February 1912 in Beselare, Belgium. During the first world war, his family fled to Rambouillet in the suburbs of Paris. He worked for a while in a bank, but painting was first passion and became his livelihood. He travelled extensively throughout Europe, before settling in Menen, Belgium and raising a son Hugo, also a painter. He died in Menen on 8th October, 2002.
He painted floral still life landscapes and seascapes in oils. Unfortunately, we have no further biographical information about his life.
The painting has been newly framed in a 3 1/2" silver gilt frame to suit and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
