This is an antique Aesthetic Period Davenport. An English, walnut and bird's eye maple writing desk, dating to the Victorian era, circa 1880.
A delightful example, with exquisite craftsmanship and Aesthetic period taste
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Superb walnut stocks show fine grain interest and warm caramel hues
Comprehensive suite of compartments set within the delightful frame
Upper gallery framing a bevelled mirror plate - of bright appearance with desirable light foxing
Covered stationery tray set before the mirror, with pen tray and ink wells
Tanned to a deep caramel hue, the tooled and embossed skiver in good condition
Slope interior appointed in striking bird's eye maple, and hosting a pair of small drawers
Tasteful ebonised stringing accentuates the casework
Both upper sections dressed with brass lock escutcheons — key absent
Left hand fascia hosts a faux bank of drawers
Four opening drawers reside in the right hand panel
Each side dressed with a quartet of striking drop finial pulls
Eye-catching pen work in gold accentuating the apron
Hand-painted panels with foliate and bird detail on ebonised ground
The whole riding upon a set of four brass and ceramic castors
