Antique pocket watch, gold & enamel, London, c1815

Matthew Dutton, Junior
London, c1815
Gold & enamel pair cases, 55 mm.
Cylinder escapement
A fine early 19th century London verge, in a beautifully enamelled gold case, protected by an outer gilt exhibition case.
MOVEMENT : Gilt cylinder movement, with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. Diamond endstone, four round pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws. Signed (Dutton, Junr., London) and numbered (2602).
Protected by a removable gilt dustcap, with cutaway to expose the balance cock table.
This movement is in very good condition, and is running well.
DIAL : Fine white enamel dial in almost perfect condition, with just a few very light scratches. Unusual gold hands (the minute may be a replacement)
INNER CASE : Gold and enamel case, marked on the bezel for 22ct (lion passant), and tested as 22ct. Blue and white enamel decoration to the band and bezel and an engine turned gold panel to the back.
In good condition throughout with just one small chip to the enamel on the front at the stem, and two other small chips to the edge of the back, at the catch, and opposite. There is a small dent to the centre of the gold panel, and the panel itself may have been repaired as it appears to have been reaffixed into the case.
The catch and hinges are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is also fine.
OUTER CASE : A gilt, glazed exhibition case.
In very good condition throughout with just a little wear to the gilding and some scratches to the crystal. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
Matthew Dutton Jnr., the son of Matthew Dutton, listed in London from 1799 and by the Clockmakers Company in 1815. Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
