Antique Waltham PS Bartlett hunter pocket watch

An antique full hunter Waltham pocket watch, P S Bartlett grade, with chain.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed P S Bartlett which is the movement grade… Patten Sargeant Bartlett was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business. As well as being fully signed, the movement also has the serial number 18,063,350 which dates it back to 1910. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made by the Dennison Watch Case Company… Aaron Dennison had close connections with Waltham. The case is in good condition and the engine turned detail is nice and crisp.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens. It is very common for the original glass lenses to be replaced and we see this often… it is difficult to tell the difference as they look so similar but they are a lot more durable.
The white enamel dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, Collingwood & Son Ltd, Sunderland, and also the Waltham name. Collingwood & Son was founded in Middlesbrough in 1886 by Matthew Collingwood, a antique clock maker by trade. There were several jewellers and watch makers within the family and they opened various antique jewellery and watch shops including Sunderland in 1909. The dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes with a single albert which measures 29cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
