Early 19th C. Pewter 1/2 Pt Tankard, J. Edwards

This is a well made Early 19th Century Pewter 1/2 Pint Tankard with a Glass Bottom. The tankard is of traditional design with line decoration around the base and a scroll handle. The initials W S C G are elegantly engraved on the front.
The tankard was made in London by J. Edwards and dates to between 1800 and 1845. J. Edwards was a London based pewterer active between those years. The firm specialised in making tankards for pubs and taverns, often engraved with the name of the pub, but did also produce some items for personal use.
The tankard has definitely seen some use but condition remains good with just the minor wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time and a nice patina on the pewter. There are no chips or cracks in the glass bottom and the tankard remains watertight. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tankard has a 1/2 pint / 284ml capacity. It is 10.6cm / 4.2ins from rim to handle, 7.9cm / 3.1ins in diameter across the base and stands 9.4cm / 3.7ins high. It weighs 349.1g / 12.3oz.
The touchmarks, just below the rim, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They are J.E for J. Edwards and their symbols of a dagger, a dragon's head and a lion rampant (largely obscured).
