Fine quality large Mahogany pedestal desk by Gillow in excellent condition. English C 1830s
Manufactured in the early 19th century by the renown firm of Gillow, it is of exceptional quality.Well maintained by former owners, this desk retains a delightful antique patina. There are 9 forward facing smoothly running drawers, all with original wooden knobs
and secured with side stops, one of which is lockable.. At the rear of the desk are 3 simulated drawers, below which are the paneled doors enclosing cupboards for files, ledgers, etc. There is plenty of useful storage space
The leather writing surface is a delight, being tan in colour, original and embossed, with signs of much age beneath its' antique patina. The desks ends are paneled. This is an increasingly rare type of desk, full of character and quality and ideal for the home or professional office. It has a generous height of 30 ins. length 60 ins and depth 36 ins. Knee-hole dimensions are 24 ins x 24 ins.
Seen here in best showroom condition, having been thoroughly checked, lightly refurbished and finally wax polished to show off the superb mellow antique patina.
