Frank Wasley W/colour San Giorgio Maggiore Venice
We are pleased to offer this delightful impressionist watercolour by the artist FRANK WASLEY, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner and inscribed it indistinctly verso 'Venice San Giorgio'. The island of San Giorgio Maggiore, is in the Venice lagoon, directly opposite the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Square. The painting shows a view of the Church of San Giorgio with the Campanile. There are several barges and gondolas out in the lagoon.
STEPHEN FRANK WASLEY, was born in Peckham, London in 1848. He was a landscape, marine and coastal painter in oil, watercolour and charcoal and was also known as a black and white artist and for his Turneresque style. He lived in many areas of the UK, but spent a great deal of time living in his studio in Whitby. He exhibited between 1880 and 1914. He died in Kensington in 1934.
Frank Wasley is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists and the Painters in the Northern Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child. He exhibited at the Royal Academy (3 Works), The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (2) The Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham (2), The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (2) and the Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery (2).

The painting is newly double mounted with two tone acid free mountboard to complement and is newly framed in a 1 1/4" bronzed gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition: Very good. There is no foxing but possibly a little fading consistent with age. The mounts and frame are new.
