A well painted watercolour of a sailing ship with small boats and a inhabited island. The painting is in good strong condition, signed and dated Frank Wood 1914.
Frank Wood, born locally in 1862 in Berwick Upon Tweed, a naval officer and ships artist in his early life, He became a professional artist in 1899, moving to Portsmouth in 1906 to focus on painting ships. In 1903 he sold a painting to King Edward V11 as well as Queen Alexandria purchased his work.
He was one of the most popular marine artists of the early 20th century.
